Wheels of Thunder follows three Aboriginals who compete in the chuck wagon event at the Calgary Stampede. Ray Mitsuing, a First Nations driver, is the leader after eight nights of racing but takes a two-second penalty that knocks him out of the top four. Métis Luke Tournier wins the overall aggregate and takes home the big money and a new pickup. As for Brian Laboucane, he finishes in the middle of the pack.
