A latch-key kid Eli enters an inviting but empty home. Eli’s routine after school includes reading notes from his mom and dad, studying, playing chess, eating pre-cooked meals, praying, and tucking himself into bed. One day, Eli’s prayers are answered when two new boys move in next door. Brent, gifted with compassion beyond his years, feels compelled to save a weaker creature from a watery tomb. Michael watches from the shadows as Eli and Brent form an instant bond saving worms together.
