In this science-fiction romantic comedy, Leslie, a pretty divorcee, has finally gotten out of Fargo, North Dakota. She now finds herself broke and without a job, living in a rundown Stillwater, Minnesota motel run by Cal, an eccentric UFO fanatic. One night they have an all-too-close encounter and the next day a friendly stranger who goes by the name Allen shows up at the motel. Cal is convinced he's an alien from the UFO they saw, which he believes crashed in the woods near the motel. An Air Force investigation team shows up, headed by Cal's old university physics professor.
