Otto Steinholz, a man with the remarkable ability to produce nuts, bolts, and other kinds of metal objects from his body, tells his daughter the story of his bicycle shop and how he met the love of his life.

The movie represented the fictional biopic genre at the 2008 Fargo 48 Hour Film Project. Fictional biopic was a wild card, as the team rejected Musical or Western, their first draw. Precious Metal went on to win Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Actor, and Best Costume Design at the 2008 Fargo 48 Hour Film Project competition.
