[edit] Main Details

[edit] Plot Summary

North Dakota poet laureate and novelist Larry Woiwode explains the purpose and scope of poetry and of the first National Writers Congress (held in various cities across North Dakota in May 2005), and then invites viewers to participate.

[edit] Production Information

This half-hour documentary is a combination North Dakota travelogue and promotional video for poetry in general and the National Writers Congress in specific. It was shot in November 2004 and February 2005, with scenes of Grand Forks, Fargo, Jamestown, Valley City, Bismarck-Mandan, Medora, and other locations across the state, including Woiwode's ranch near Mott. DVDs were distributed at the 2005 UND Writers Conference, and were sent to schools across the state and writers across the country. Besides a 27-minute version, 60-second and 30-second capsule summaries were prepared for use as TV spots or to use as an educational blurb before a class.
