John Ferry

John Ferry (b. 1947) has been involved in the production of documentary films for more than three decades, working closely with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Snyder. In 2002, he produced an 85-minute documentary on the life and work of Pablo Casals, titled Pablo Casals: A Cry for Peace, and in 2006 he was producer, editor and associate director of a 54-minute film on Henry Miller's watercolors called Henry Miller: To Paint Is to Love Again.

Other films on which he has worked include Michelangelo: A Self-Portrait (1989), a documentary shown nationally on PBS after a theatrical release, and Claudio Arrau: A Life in Music (1978), Ruth Asawa: Of Forms & Growth (1978), Willem de Kooning: Artist (1995), The Vatican Collection, and This Is Henry Miller from Brooklyn to Paris.

Sitting Bull: A Stone in My Heart marks a departure from film about artists and is a reflection of his keen interest in the history of the American West, and in particular the history and culture of Native Americans. Ferry studied acting and directing at Lawrence Merrick’s Studio with Joan Huntington and Robert Broyles, has a BA in Theater Arts and an MA in cinema. He resides in Santa Barbara, California.
