Hummer was made as part of Carlson's Senior Seminar project at Minnesota State University Moorhead. The movie is set to the Smashing Pumpkins song of the same name. Some interiors were shot at Snyder Film in Fargo. Other scenes were shot at the home of Carlson's parents. The movie was submitted to a Details Magazine contest held by sex columnist Anka Radakovic. In her column on the submissions to the Win a Date with Anka Contest, she wrote briefly about Carlson's movie.
