Three characters are followed as they deal with different forms of despair. The first deals with the loss of a loved one, the second struggles with weight gain, and the third comes to terms with a mental condition.

The movie was shot in the small town of Rutland, North Dakota, where J.J. Gordon and Jared Nilles were directing a children's play. It was an experiment with no color and high contrast on video. The song used is How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead.

The room where Jared's character breaks down was actually the set for a play Jared and J.J. were staging in the small town's community center.
