Creative Movie Production

From Fargo Filmmaking

Creative Movie Production is a periodic class at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, first offered during the Fall 2006 semester as an English 299 "Special Topics" course. The class takes students through the entire moviemaking process, from concept to script to preproduction to production to postproduction, using digital video equipment. For the Fall 2006 term the UND Visual Arts Dept. made its Final Cut Pro video editing lab available. In 2007 the English Department purchased two new Macs of its own equipped with Final Cut Studio 2, as well as a Sony HVR-V1U camcorder to use for future offerings of the class and its recently added follow-up course, Advanced Movie Production.

Christopher Jacobs was the course's first teacher. Nine short movies were completed by students for the Fall 2006 term, thirteen movies for the Fall 2007 term, and six movies for the Fall 2008 term. The class was not offered during the Spring semesters.
