Eric, a plucky 12-year-old, is disillusioned and horrified by the bizarre cruelty experienced during his first day of junior high school, where he encounters a bullying jock, a cruel vixen, a screaming gym teacher, and a kindly janitor.

After-School Special was made for the Spring 2003 Advanced Film Production II class taught at Minnesota State University Moorhead by Greg Carlson.

The movie played during the 2004 Fargo Film Festival and the 2004 Free Range Film Festival. It was first shown at the public showing Zombie Fights Shark, which took place on May 13, 2003.

The interiors of the main character's home were shot at the residence of Greg Carlson. The basketball court scenes were shot at Concordia College. The rest of the scenes were shot at Ben Franklin Middle School.
