African Soul, American Heart premiered on November 9, 2008 at the Fargo Theatre. An article titled African Film Makes Debut by Kim Winnegge appeared in the Metro/State section of the November 10, 2008 edition of The Forum. The brief piece mentioned the 150 viewers that attended the first of two showings, and interviewed producer/director/writer Deb Dawson, documentary subject Joseph Akol Makeer, producer/writer Kevin Brooks, and audience member Connie Peterson.
